PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Teachers will equip all students with skills to be inspired, contributing citizens excelling in any chosen endeavor within a dynamic global society. Teachers will provide Leadership, Engagement, and Innovation within their classroom to foster student success.


QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned
Meet Highly Qualified standards established by No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, 20 U.S.C.
6311, P.L. 102-110, Section 9101 (23)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of subjects assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instructions
CDL required if transporting students (CTE teachers, Coaches, Extracurricular Activities) with the following –
• Acceptable driving record
• Class B CDL with Air Brake, Passenger, & School bus endorsements
• Ability to pass a DOT physical (renewed yearly)
• Completion of 20 hour bus driver certification course (renewed every 3 years)

 

Experience:
Student teaching or approved internship

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

Instructional Strategies

 

1. Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.

 

2. Prepare and differentiate lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.

 

3. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policy, and administrative guidelines.

 

4. Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.

 

5. Awareness of various student-learning styles and the use of professional judgement in selecting instructional activities.

 

6. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established by Individual Education Plans (IEP).

 

7. Maintain accurate records in relation to student grading that accurately reflects what is being taught through TEKS based instruction.

 

8. Use assessment results to drive instruction for individual students as well as classes as a whole

 

9. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.

 

10. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteers(s).

 

11. Use technologies in the teaching/learning process.

 

Student Growth and Development

 

12. Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.

 

13. Consistently assess student achievement activities through summative and formative assessments.

 

14. Assume responsibilities for extracurricular activities as assigned and if desired may sponsor outside activities approved by the school.

 

15. Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school district.

 

Classroom Management and Organization

 

16. Create a classroom environment conductive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

 

17. Manage student behavior in the classroom and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and if applicable IEP.

 

18. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

 

19. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication

 

20. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.

 

21. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

 

22. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

 

Professional Growth and Development

 

23. Participate in the district staff development program.

 

24. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.


25. Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct as described in board policy.

 

26. Observe professional and ethical standards, in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Professional Educators Code of Ethics.


Policy Implementation

 

27. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

 

28. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

 

29. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

 

30. Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).
