PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Help mechanics repair and maintain all vehicles.

Perform preventative maintenance on all GISD vehicles.

                                                                                                                                            

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:         

Valid Texas CDL driver’s license (class B) with Passenger Endorsement

Texas School Bus Driver’s Certification

High School Diploma or GED

Annual physical exam and driver license check

             

Special Knowledge/Skills:                                                                                                   

Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair

Ability to pass required bus driver safety training

Ability to be self-motivated

Ability to relate well with others

 

Experience:                           

One-year experience in minor vehicle repair and maintenance (preferred)

             

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

1.  Maintenance and Repair

1.1  Assist mechanic in the repair of all GISD vehicles/equipment. 

1.2  Check fluid levels and replace oil, water, battery and other fluids as scheduled.

1.3  Help in maintaining accurate, updated records of preventative maintenance.

1.4  Inspect, repair, change and rotate tires.

1.5  Clean shop floors, stalls, driveways, tools and equipment.

1.6  Inspect and clean all GISD vehicles as needed.

1.7  Assist mechanic in the repair of damaged seats.

1.8  Brakes (yellow and white) - Seats and Ujoints

1.9  Repair alternators, belts, hose and diagnostics (scanner)

1.10 Lights - Diagnostics, replace and rewire

 

2.  Safety

2.1 Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to established safety procedures.

2.2 Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc.

2.3  Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

 

3.  Other

3.1  Operate buses and vehicles as needed, including driving buses into shop area for work.

3.2  Oversees Community Service on Saturdays.  Making sure that work along with clocking in and out is being done correctly.

3.3  Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

None

 

EQUIPMENT USED:     

Automotive diagnostic equipment, wheel-balancing equipment, tire repairing equipment, small hand tools, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, welding torch, torque wrench, jacks, and lift equipment.  School bus and district vehicles.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Mental Demands/Physical/Environmental Factors:

 

Ability to work independently, following established procedures.  Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching.  Work outside and inside, around moving objects, vehicles and machinery with moving parts.  Exposed to dampness and humidity, toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline and diesel fuel.  Ability to operate motor vehicle.
