PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Serve as member of support team for students.  Provide individualized assistance and coaching to assigned students and provide ongoing support.

 

Tutors will work under the direct supervision of the assigned teacher.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

             

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university

Valid teaching certificate (Required endorsements for subject and level assigned and Texas Certification preferred)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

 

Demonstrate expertise in teaching the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)

Knowledge of State Mandated Assessments

Effective interpersonal skills and willingness to work collaboratively with the instructional support team

Effective coaching, problem solving and conferencing skills

Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and learning

Demonstrated effectiveness as a professional role model

Demonstrated use of best teaching practices

Understanding of and ability to use student learning research

 

Experience:

             

Three years teaching experience (preferred)

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

Tutoring 

  1. Meet regularly with the assigned teacher and participate in ongoing support team meetings. 
  1. Provide instructional support based upon the diagnostic needs of the students as determined by the principal and the assigned teacher. 
  1. Work with principal and the assigned teacher on scheduling of students for tutoring. 
  1. Use a variety of instructional strategies to teach the required specific concepts needed by the student. Normally, the tutor will use different strategies than those already used by the assigned teacher. 
  1. Report daily to the assigned teachers on the progress of each student. 
  1. Participate in delivery of small group instruction to students. 

 

 Communication 

  1. Establish and maintain open communication with principal and the assigned teacher and other staff as needed. 
  1. Maintain a professional relationship with principal and the assigned teacher and support team members. 
  1. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. 

Professional Growth and Development 

  1. Participate in professional development activities to improve instructional skills. 

 Other 

  1. Compile, maintain, and supply to principal and the assigned teacher tutoring schedules, reports and records of instructional strategies.

            Maintain emotional control under stress.  Occasional irregular hours.
