PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Assist the school principal in the overall administration of the instructional program and operations at the campus level. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification: Master's degree Texas midmanagement or other appropriate Texas certificate Certified instructional supervisor and appraiser in PDAS Valid Texas teaching certification
Special Knowledge/skills: Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction;
The ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness;
The ability to manage budget and personnel and coordinate campus functions;
The ability to explain policy, procedures, and data;
Strong communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills;
Prior experience in instructional leadership roles; and
Other qualifications deemed necessary by the Board
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Management
1. Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs.
2. Encourage and support the development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers to pilot such efforts when appropriate.
3. Facilitate the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
School/Organizational Climate
4. Promote a positive, caring climate for learning.
5. Deal sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds.
6. Employ effective interpersonal skills.
School/Organizational Improvement
7. Participate in collaborative processes to develop campus improvement plans with staff, parents, and community members.
8. Assist principal in developing, maintaining, and using appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of campus.
Personnel Management
9. Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff.
10. Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orienting new staff.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
11. Supervise operations in the absence of the regular principal.
12. Assist in the administration of the daily organization of the school including class scheduling, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activities.
13. Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and work with the attendance supervisor on investigative follow-up actions.
14. Assist in compiling annual budget requests based upon documented program needs.
15. Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; conduct inventories; maintain records; and verify receipts for such material.
16. Cooperate in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
17. Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services.
18. Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
Student Management
19. Coordinate and provide adequate supervision of students during non-instructional periods.
20. Provide input to develop a student management system that results in positive student behavior.
21. Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable.
22. Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning school and student issues.
Professional Growth and Development
23. Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
24. Exemplify high standards of ethical conduct as described in board policy.
25. Observe professional and ethical standards, in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Professional Educators Code of Ethics.
School/Community
26. Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
27. Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.
28. Use appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
29. Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the principal.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Shares supervisory responsibility for professional staff with school principal. Supervise teachers, paraprofessionals and clerical personnel and others when assigned by principal.
Working conditions:
Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); coordinate campus support functions; maintain emotional control under stress.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Occasional districtwide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
