CONTRACT DAYS: 240

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:  

 

Under general supervision, perform skilled work in construction, alteration, repair and installation of fixtures, buildings, and structures throughout the district.  Maintain district structures throughout the district.  Maintain district structures and furniture in attractive and safe condition.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

High School Diploma or GED

Valid Texas driver’s license

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

 Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in carpentry

 Ability to use hand and power tools

 Ability to follow written and verbal instruction

 Ability to read blueprints and diagrams

 Ability to measure and perform mathematical computations

 Knowledge of construction codes

 Ability to work independently

 

 Experience:

 Five years experience as skilled carpenter

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 

  1. Maintenance and Repair 

1.1  Plan and complete construction of cabinets, shelves, countertops, walls, and partitions from initial layout to assembly using oral instructions, plans, specifications, blueprints, and work orders.

 

1.2  Provide working drawings of needed cabinetry, new constructions, and renovations.

 

1.3  Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.

 

1.4  Fabricate, repair, and replace doors, related trim, windows, flooring, ceiling materials, glass, building hardware, screens, plastic laminate, etc.

 

1.5  Construct and repair outdoor equipment including playground equipment, fences, gates, bleachers, etc.

 

1.6  Detect needed repairs on building, grounds, and equipment by following established inspection procedures.

 

1.7  Replace, repair, and finish furniture, cabinets, fixtures, woodwork, etc.

 

1.8  Finish all work with stains, lacquers, paints, etc.  

 

1.9  Install entry hardware (door knobs, door closures, dead bolts, and panic devices).

 

1.10 Service and repair all hardware.

 

1.11 Assist with the installation and moving of portable buildings, including constructing steps, installing underpinning, etc.

 

1.12 Receive and complete work orders.

 

1.13 Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.

 

1.14 Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.

 

1.15 Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean and remove scraps and lumber as needed.

 

1.16 Work with building principals and Maintenance Director to complete projects.

 

1.17 Respond to emergency calls as needed.

 

  1. Safety 

2.1 Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.

 

2.2 Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

 

2.3 Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.

 

2.4 Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.

 

2.5 Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to Maintenance Director immediately.

 

Other

 

3.1 Attend school/training sessions as required.

 

3.2 Perform other duties as assigned by Maintenance Director.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

              None

 

EQUIPMENT USED:

 

              Table saw, radial arm saw, cutoff saw, band saw, scroll saw, shaper, planer, drill press, sander, router, nail gun, air compressor, other power equipment, measuring devices. Light truck or van.

 

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

              Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

              Frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, inside and outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, ladders, and scaffolding, and around machinery with moving parts.  Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, excessive noises, fumes, and toxic chemicals. Frequent districtwide travel.
